The former dairy building was built in 1593. The farmyard constructed for the castle included several barns, probably the adjacent wine press that still exists today, and served as the main and administrative building. In 1848, the building became the property of the municipality of Bönnigheim and was used as the town hall. With the incorporation of Hohenstein into the town of Bönnigheim in 1972, the building's use as the town hall was discontinued.

The massive choir tower still retains its original appearance today. It was not raised or altered in later times, as was usually the case. Inside, the triumphal arch without a rafter and the simple barrel vault of the choir still point to a 12th-century construction. Since the cult of Saint Ottilie is often associated with water, a spring below the church hill may have been the reason for the church's patronage. In 1379, Johannes von Urbach is mentioned as a parish priest. In the 15th century, the church came into the possession of Lauffen Abbey, which was succeeded by Denkendorf Abbey in 1522. After the Reformation, the monasteries were dissolved, and their rights reverted to Württemberg. In 1760, the nave was renovated and raised, but the tower was not repaired until 1773. The interior and exterior were renovated in 2007.
