From Kreuzberg to Bad Brückenau, you practically don't have to pedal for 26.9 km by bike. But even then, it's always downhill to Jossa on the way and further to Gemünden. The Rhönexpress Way leads through wonderful meadows and protected landscape. Worth seeing.

The Kreuzberg in the Rhön has always attracted people as a place of power. In pre-Christian times, there was a sacred ash tree there, which is remembered by the old name "Aschberg". Since the Christianization of the Franks by St. Kilian and his companions in the year 686, the Kreuzberg has been considered the Holy Mountain of the Franks. The monastery, located just below the summit, was founded in 1644 by Franciscan monks. The pilgrimages are popular with the population, both from the surrounding area and traditionally from the Lower Franconian district town of Würzburg, which makes the long journey on foot to the pilgrimage church every year. The Bergwacht (BW) Bischofsheim, formerly Bergwacht Bad Neustadt, was established on 29.06.1969 as the first BW unit in the Rhön. The primary area of operation is located in the municipality of Bischofsheim a.d. Rhön with the area around Kreuzberg, Arnsberg and the Salzpforten up to Bad Neustadt, as well as parts of the Hochrhön. As part of the preventive service in winter, we look after the ski area on Kreuzberg and the cross-country ski trails there, and in summer you will often find us during the preventive service at the Kreuzbergschanzen in Haselbach. Our main areas of operation are primarily injured outdoor sports enthusiasts such as skiers, snowboarders, paragliders, mountain bikers, hikers, but also injured forestry workers and the search for missing persons. We carry out nature conservation services in the "Langen Rhön". The main focus is the annual mowing of lupins.
