🚲 This spot is perfectly suited for a short photo stop or simply to catch your breath. Standing up here above the traffic or the landscape and letting your gaze wander into the distance gives you a whole new sense of the dimensions of our homeland. It's the ideal point to briefly feel like an explorer before continuing the ride down into the plain.

🚲🏰✨ The Gräftenhöfe in Nordwalde are fascinating witnesses to a time when even simple farmsteads were secured like small fortresses. These “farmers' water castles” are typical of the Münsterland and impressively show how closely architecture, the need for protection, and the region's water-rich landscape are interwoven.

The listed church of St. Johannes Nepomuk is a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish of St. Johannes Altenberge, Kreis Steinfurt, North Rhine-Westphalia, and is located in the center of the Hansell district, which belongs to the political municipality of Altenberge. The Westfälische Nachrichten wrote on 19.04.2019: "Anyone who deals with the history of St. Johannes Nepomuk must look back to the 18th century. And Hinnemann tells of a very important man: Jodokus Franziskus Homeier. From 1743 until his death on October 1, 1780, he was a canon at the Old Cathedral in Münster. But not only that: Homeier was the owner of the Wesselmann estate in Hansell. Due to the adverse weather and the long school routes, many children could not attend the Altenberge village school during the winter months, says Gertrud Hinnemann. The solution: From 1740 onwards, the boys and girls of Hansell were taught in the barn of the Wesselmann farm. Bell But the clergyman's drive was not yet curbed. Because: Even for the churchgoers, the way to the parish church of St. Johannes Baptist was arduous - so a church was needed: In October 1762, Homeier received permission at the request of the people of Hansell to build a church on his property. In the autumn of 1765, the building was completed in baroque style after a three-year construction period and consecrated a year later. Thus, a small church was built - however, without a tower, because it was not approved."
