As part of the local project "WasserWege" (Waterways) within the framework of Regionale 2004, the formerly straightened stream in the urban area of Emsdetten has been largely renatured, cycle paths and footpaths have been created along its course, and direct access to the water has been restored in many places. As part of this, two new pedestrian bridges were also built, more closely connecting the eastern part of the city with the town center.
