January 19, 2025, Equestrian Statue of Prince-Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen

Prince-Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen (1606-1678), equipped with a mitre and bishop's staff, appears as the crowning figure of a classic equestrian statue on a high-mounted horse. The artist depicts the victorious bishop with bare feet, a subtle reference to the dubious nature of violent exercise of power and to people's penitence. The two-ton, eight-meter-high bronze sculpture was erected in 1995 to mark the completion of extensive extensions in the atrium of the St. Josef Foundation and marks a high point in Bernhard Kleinhans' artistic life's work, and not only because of its impressive dimensions. In 2009, the sculpture was moved to the west gate, where the impressive work of art is visible to everyone from afar. https://www.sendenhorst.de/fileadmin/user_upload/user_upload_DB3_SG4X/Kulturpfade/Prospekt_Kleinhans.web.pdf

In 1965, a life-size bronze sculpture of the church and city's patron saint was erected in front of the south portal of the church. The Marian column from 1904 had previously found its place in this spot.

When it was erected, the bronze sculpture depicting a mother and child replaced a St. Joseph chapel, which used to be one of the many stations in the Corpus Christi procession. Today, the blessing is given in front of the statue of Mary in the fire procession.

The predecessor of today's town hall also stood on the same site for approximately 100 years, beginning in 1911. The council chamber of the town hall is still preserved today.

A total of 8 mirrors of "knowledge" stand on the Promenade Ring, which stretches around the city center in place of the historic fortification wall. Freedom, solidarity, non-violence, justice, human dignity, creation, peace and tolerance. They emerged from a competition announced in 1998 for the "Artistic design of the Promenade Ring in Sendenhorst".
