The Karawanken owe their name to the characteristic east-west direction of the ridges and valleys, which line up like a caravan. At 120 km, the Karawanken are considered the longest mountain range stretching from the Dreiländereck between Austria, Italy, and Slovenia to Croatia.

This is one of the rivers or streams (depending on the season) flowing from the Karawanks into the Drava. Because it's so flat, the water is easily accessible. During my visit in August 2025, during the hot summer temperatures, I was very pleased to have this opportunity to cool off!
