A very beautiful building in a beautiful old town. A city tour in Füssen is definitely worth it.

A piece of the Fichtel Mountains far from home: Atop a 2.40-meter-high column of Epprechtstein granite stands the figure of Saint Magnus, the missionary of the Allgäu region, who vanquished the dragon, the symbol of evil, with the sign of the cross, as the fountain figure of Füssen's town fountain. After the neo-Gothic town fountain was demolished in 1965 to make way for car traffic along Reichenstrasse, the Füssen sculptor Alois Vogler created this new fountain. The figure of Magnus was cast in bronze and placed on the column from the Fichtel Mountains. The fountain was officially inaugurated on St. Magnus' Day, September 6, 1968.

With its bronze figures of girls by the Roßhaupten artist Josef Walk, the fountain commemorates the girls' school in Füssen that once occupied house number 14. The fact that there are two girls is due to the fact that two women conceived the idea for the fountain. The Lech pebbles on the ground are a reminder of the town's history: this is how Füssen's streets were once paved. In winter, the figures wear woolly hats and scarves.

At the western end of the Benedictine monastery of St. Mang lies the parish church of the same name. From the west choir of the church, a section of the city's fortifications runs to the High Castle.

Originally built as the church of the Benedictine monastery of St. Mang, the basilica has served as the Catholic parish church of the town since the monastery's dissolution at the beginning of the 19th century. The current building, designed by Johann Jakob Herkomer, dates from 1701 to 1717. As early as the mid-8th century, a chapel dedicated to the Savior is said to have been erected here by the church's current patron saint, Magnus of Füssen. Around 815, construction began on a monastery church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which was expanded into a cruciform basilica in the mid-11th century. Initial plans for a new building arose in 1687 after the church was plundered and damaged during the Thirty Years' War.
