The church forms the present-day center of the village. A completely new district developed around it. The church probably separated from the mother church on the Volkacher Kirchberg as early as 1330, but the relevant documents were subsequently burned. Therefore, the independence of the parish of Obervolkach is only dated to the year 1435.[32] The first church was probably built like a chapel and replaced in the following period. Today, the Nikolauskirche presents itself primarily as a late Gothic building. The church received a Julius Echter's pointed helmet at the beginning of the 17th century when it was renovated. In the post-war period, the old church soon became too small for the growing number of parishioners, and plans were made to enlarge it. Therefore, the floor area was increased by two-thirds in 1976, and the church was reconsecrated in 1977. Wikipedia
