The Niederemmendingen town gate is the only remaining one of four Baroque gates that were originally built in the early 18th century as part of the town's fortifications. In 1706, it received a distinctive turret, and in 1929 a second gateway was added – to this day, it dominates the entrance to Karl-Friedrich-Straße. Remnants of the old town wall are visible nearby, including at Hebelstraße and Goethepark.

The beer garden is nice, but it's self-service only, with prices that don't justify it.

The Gaisenfelsenhütte was built in 1927 and is maintained by the Friends of Nature association in Waldkirch.

The road from Reichenbach via Gscheid to Oberspitzenbach has hardly any car traffic (except for the usual, sometimes annoying motorbikes).

As an alternative to the main road, you can cycle on the field road that is only open to agricultural traffic. This way you don't have to worry about fast, motorized traffic and can concentrate fully on your tour through the Black Forest.
