The Diergardt’scher Wald is a protected nature reserve within the Schwalm-Nette Nature Park. The ancient deciduous forest is characterized by tall beech, oak, and ash trees that together form a dense and shady canopy. Numerous mosses, ferns, and spring flowers grow among the trees. The reserve is an important habitat for woodpeckers, owls, and bats. Thanks to the tranquility and the ancient trees, you'll find a unique, almost fairytale-like atmosphere here. Hiking trails wind through the forest, inviting you to explore at your leisure.

The Elmpter Schwalmbruch observation tower in the municipality of Niederkrüchten, built in 1994, was renovated at the turn of the year 2022/2023. The old observation platform, which had to be demolished in August 2021, was a wooden structure exposed to the elements without protection and had exceeded its normal service life. The tower was very popular and had been established in the region for years. From the platform, you have a sweeping view over the heath and moorland all the way to the Schwalm River. It is also a beautiful starting point for hiking through the nature reserve with its restored oxbows of the Schwalm River and protected species waters.
