The Niegripp lock was opened in 1938 and replaced the Old Niegripp lock from 1872, located a little further north. The lock connects the Elbe river with the Mittelland Canal and the Elbe-Havel Canal. A special feature is that, depending on the water level of the Elbe, the passage through the lock occurs upwards or downwards in different directions.

A real eye-catcher. The Kalimandscharo, with its 120-meter-high mound, is noticeable even from a great distance. It can even be visited and climbed.

We were very fortunate that a wedding was taking place at the time. We took our time to look around and were able to peek into the castle chapel. It's a very impressive building.
