Amazing tour and the view is stunning. Unfortunately the path leaving to Tennerifes Matterhorn is blocked about 500 meter due to landslide, but dont give up!! Instead of taking the trail showed on the kommoot gps from the village to the iconic mountain just take a slightly different route. Walk instead to the viewpoint well signed (just follow the paved path going up in the village) from the viewpoint take the stairs down and now you are on track again. Highly rekommandated route -but would not go with small children because I am a bit afraid of hights. Anyway the trail felt safe doing a Sunny day.

Well, hello! The trail we wanted to hike today was unfortunately closed, and hiking was prohibited. We went in a little way and took some photos. Many people struggled through the almost overgrown path. We decided to turn back and drove to where the trail ends, but we couldn't find a parking spot. The view of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean was beautiful.

A fantastic circular hike along the Atlantic coast and through stunning natural scenery. We hiked this route and encountered runners and even a mountain biker, who had to carry his bike in some sections. The hike is highly recommended.

A beautiful rocky path winds around the cliffs. Unfortunately, the path leading from the bay to Punta Brava has been closed for several years.

Tenerife offers a vast network of trails suitable for families. Our guide features over a thousand easy and moderate routes, ensuring plenty of options for all ages and fitness levels. In total, there are over 160 marked hiking trails across the island.
Tenerife's volcanic origins mean you'll encounter incredibly diverse terrain. From the lunar-like landscapes of Teide National Park to the lush, ancient laurel forests of Anaga Rural Park and dramatic coastal paths, the island offers a wide variety of environments. Many family-friendly routes feature well-maintained paths, but some may include uneven surfaces, so sturdy footwear is always recommended.
Yes, many family-friendly trails in Tenerife are circular, making them convenient for day trips. For example, the Malpais de Guimar - circular from El Puertito de Guimar is an easy option, or consider the moderate Return to Tenejías and Aguaide viewpoint — circular from Chinamada for stunning views.
Tenerife is rich in natural wonders. You can explore unique geological formations like the 'Lunar Landscape' near Vilaflor, or discover ancient forests in Anaga Rural Park. For specific points of interest, consider visiting the Chinamada Cave Village, or the fascinating Cave dwellings at the entrance to the Malpaís de Güímar.
While Tenerife is not primarily known for large waterfalls, some trails offer beautiful barrancos (gorges) and smaller cascades, especially after rainfall. The Ruiz Gorge Trail and the area around Barranco de Afur can be quite scenic. The Barranco del Infierno Waterfall is a notable attraction, though access often requires permits and can be challenging for very young children.
Tenerife boasts a mild climate year-round, making it an excellent hiking destination in any season. However, the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer particularly pleasant temperatures and less crowded trails. During summer, higher altitude trails like those in Teide National Park provide a cooler escape, while coastal walks are best enjoyed in the mornings or late afternoons.
Yes, Tenerife offers several enjoyable coastal walks. The Rambla de Castro – Beach of los Roques and San Pedro Viewpoint is a relatively flat option with beautiful sea views. Many coastal paths allow families to appreciate the island's marine environment and unique black sand beaches.
The komoot community highly rates hiking in Tenerife, with an average score of 4.3 stars from over 75,000 ratings. Reviewers often praise the island's stunning and diverse landscapes, the well-maintained paths, and the variety of trails suitable for different ages, making it a fantastic destination for family adventures.
Absolutely. For families with young children or those looking for a shorter outing, routes like the Roque de Taborno and viewpoints — circular from Taborno offer manageable distances and rewarding views. Look for trails marked as 'easy' in our guide, which typically have less elevation gain and shorter durations.
Many villages and towns near popular trailheads offer cafes, restaurants, and picnic spots. For instance, the Restaurante La Cueva is a unique dining option. It's always a good idea to check the specific route details on komoot for amenities along the way or in nearby settlements.
Given Tenerife's varied microclimates, it's wise to pack layers. Essential items include sturdy hiking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), plenty of water, snacks, and a light rain jacket, especially if heading into higher altitudes or the misty Anaga forests. For families, consider a small first-aid kit and any specific comfort items for children.
