This stone memorial plaque has been placed next to the former site of the synagogue since 1984. "After the synagogue on the market square in Winnweiler, which had existed since 1819/20, had to be closed in 1899 due to dilapidation, the Jewish community built a very attractive new synagogue in the Neo-Romanesque style in 1900/1901 "Im Stockborn" (later Synagogengasse, then Realschulstraße and today Gymnasiumstraße). The foundation stone was laid on August 25, 1900. On June 28, 1901, the synagogue was consecrated with great participation from the Winnweiler population, the municipal council, and the two Christian congregations. The designer was the well-known Jewish architect Prof. Ludwig Levi from Landau/Karlsruhe, who designed numerous synagogues (e.g., in Kaiserslautern, Strasbourg, Baden-Baden, Bingen, and others). He also planned a series of Christian churches in the West Palatinate. The main hall had 44 seats for men, and the women's gallery had 30 seats for women. The synagogue was burned down by an SA troop during Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) on November 9/10, 1938, and the remains were blown up the following year.
