May 22, 2026, McFarland House

McFarland House sits in McFarland Park, which is popular for picnicking, walking, and cycling, with public bathrooms at the north end of the park. The house itself is the oldest property owned by Niagara Parks, dating back to 1812, when it was a military hospital. The house can be visited between 10 am and 5 pm every day except for Saturday. All tickets are under $10.

The Upper Canada Heritage Trail cuts through lush vineyards and patches of green forests, best visited during snow-free times of the year. The flat, gravel path is open to biking, running, and leashed dog walking. The large old trees provide shade, and patches of vineyards provide some warm sunshine, a nice mix of shade and sun.

This is a point in the Upper Canada Heritage Trail where the trail ends for a short time, and a suburban sidewalk must be used for just a few meters. There are maps, trash cans, signage, and stones blocking motor vehicles from entering the trail on both access points.

The Vineyard Villa is part of the Two Sisters Vineyards and the southern end of the Upper Canada Heritage Trail. The vineyards here stretch all the way to East & West Line Road, and there are also a few large trees that provide some shade.

This place is simply fantastic. We loved it. The trails were a bit challenging, but it was a great experience. It's usually quiet here during the week. There's ample parking, so parking isn't a problem. The public restrooms were very clean. Don't forget to click on the map image, as it can be confusing otherwise. I don't recommend going with children, as the trails are very rocky and would be difficult for children. If you enjoy hiking and want to experience nature up close, this place is ideal. An absolute must for anyone looking for an adventurous hike.

A beautiful network of hiking trails in a forest in the heart of the Niagara Gorge. The park entrance is easily accessible by WEGO bus. The entire hike is beautiful and unlike any I've done before. A unique landscape. The trail can be a bit challenging, so be sure to bring water and sturdy shoes. A fantastic hike.

The Niagara Glen Trail offers a peaceful retreat into nature with scenic views of the gorge and winding forest paths. It's a great place for a relaxed hike—just enough challenge to keep it interesting. The area is clean, well-marked, and feels safe. Perfect for an afternoon stroll if you're nearby and want to enjoy some quiet time outdoors.

Great hiking, very scenic, especially along the whitewater river sections. Beautiful rock formations along the trail. Most of the hike is through wooded terrain, so it's not too hot when the sun is shining. The trail is very well marked. I hiked the outer loop, just over 2 km round trip, with plenty of great photo stops along the way. It's cool to see the jet boat tours fly by during the hike. A nice change of pace.
