Super route. Breathtaking views. Impossible to do without an app though as it's difficult to find your way. Access to the banana plantation is blocked by a barrier, so we went under the barrier to continue. Then a technical section in the rocks, but it's worth the detour. Algae on the beach prevented us from swimming.

Only I know the "trail" from "El Valle" over the mountain to "Rincon"!

This rocky dance is truly dangerous: sharp points, interspersed with holes – one misstep is almost certain to result in injury. For sure-footed hikers who can rely on their ankles not to buckle, this is sure to be a fun challenge. Thankfully, we (80+) had poles with us, and we still sweated blood!

Hello. We wanted to go this tour today, October 18th, 21st. We walked past El Capito and for a long time through a great, huge banana plantation. Then we saw huge cacti and continued over the rocks, later, about 500 m from the beach, the path was so overgrown that we turned around. The hike was still very nice. The aquarium is also recommended. It is best to bring your own snorkel and glasses.

You'll discover a rich variety of landscapes, from lush tropical forests and dense jungles to extensive banana plantations. Many trails lead to pristine, wild beaches with crystal-clear waters, offering stunning views of the bay. You might also traverse rocky formations, including lava rocks that provide elevated viewpoints, and even spot unique flora like large cacti.
Yes, there are several easy loop trails. For a pleasant coastal walk, consider the Playa Las Galeras – Playa Grande, Las Galeras loop from hotel, which is just over 2 km long. Another great option is the Kaio Natural Aquarium loop from Grand Paradise Samana, offering a slightly longer but still easy experience.
Many trails offer access to beautiful coastal spots and viewpoints. You can visit Madame Beach or Playa Frontón, both stunning beaches. For a meal with a view, some routes pass near El Cabito Restaurant & Cliff View or El Castillo Restaurant & Guesthouse, offering great spots to relax.
While many trails are natural and can be uneven, some of the easier, flatter coastal paths might be manageable with robust, all-terrain strollers. However, for the most comfortable experience, it's generally recommended to use baby carriers for very young children, as rocky sections and sandy beaches are common.
The dry season, typically from December to May, is generally the most pleasant time for family hiking. The weather is usually sunny with less humidity, making for more comfortable conditions. During this period, trails are less muddy, and you can fully enjoy the beaches and coastal views.
While specific regulations for dogs within Monumento Natural Cabo Samaná can vary, it's always best to keep dogs on a leash to protect the local wildlife and ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors. Be prepared to carry out any waste. Check local signage or with park authorities upon arrival for the most current rules.
Absolutely. For families seeking a longer adventure, the Madame Beach – Playa Grande, Las Galeras loop from Las Galeras is a moderate 10 km route. Another good option is the Las Galeras – Playa Las Galeras loop from Las Galeras, which is about 8.3 km and also rated moderate.
The area is highly rated by the komoot community, with an average score of 4.3 stars. The sense of discovery on secluded paths is also frequently highlighted.
Parking availability can vary depending on the specific trailhead. Many popular starting points, especially near towns like Las Galeras or hotels, may offer designated parking areas. For more remote trailheads, roadside parking might be an option. It's advisable to check specific route details or inquire locally for the best parking spots.
Given the tropical climate and varied terrain, it's essential to bring plenty of water, sun protection (hats, sunscreen), insect repellent, and sturdy closed-toe shoes. Swimwear and snorkel gear are also recommended if your hike leads to a beach, as the crystal-clear waters are perfect for a refreshing dip.
