A small 13th-century tower shrouded in legend. In the late 19th century, it was popularly known as the "Torre di Gnicche" (Gnicche Tower) because, according to tradition, it was one of the refuges of the most famous Areto robber of all time. Federigo Bobini—his true identity—knew the area since childhood, having been born on June 19, 1845, not far away on what is now Via Antonio da Sangallo, on the stretch from Borgo Santa Croce to the cemetery. At that time, the place was called Le Fornaci. The son of a farm laborer and a laundress, he was already a Gnicche, or Gnich, as he is almost always called in the crime histories of the time—a destructive man from a young age. He was accused of various incidents of petty crime, theft, violence, and murder. His "ventures" ended on March 14, 1871, when he was arrested by the Carabinieri in a small farm between Badia al Pino and Tegoleto. On his way to the barracks, he attempted to escape and was struck down by a fatal bullet.

The tower seems to have been built in the 300s on older foundations, perhaps as a duty point for those entering the city or perhaps as a medieval defensive point but which fell into disuse in the following centuries. In the final part of the 19th century it began to be called in popular jargon "tower of Gnicche", because according to tradition it had been one of the refuges of the most famous brigand from Arezzo ever, Federigo Bobini. The adventurous and dramatic death during his capture by the carabinieri increased his fame as a brigand. The fictionalized memory immediately handed down the figure of a bandit who was polite with women, a lover of beautiful clothes, cards and dancing, arrogant with the powerful and with the forces of order. It even seems that on some occasions he had behaved like "Robin Hood of us", donating part of the stolen goods to the less fortunate. Country festivals in the Arezzo valleys became an opportunity for storytellers to narrate their deeds and fuel the legends that have come down to us, altering reality. The most famous octave rhyme ballad was that of Giovanni Fantoni da Ponte Buriano, which also quoted the famous verse: "He carries a knife made in cliques in his pocket, by nickname he was called Gnicche".

The park covers about eight hectares and includes a beautiful lake with a large colony of aquatic turtles, pedestrian and cycle paths, play areas for children, an area for dogs off the leash, a small open-air theater reminiscent of those ancient Greece for shows and a lively community centre.

Immersed in the park is the elegant villa which takes its name from the last private owner, the Arezzo mathematician Francesco Severi.

Today we all know it as Porta Trento Trieste, the east access to the historic center of Arezzo and the reference point for the Porta Sant'Andrea district, one of the four into which the city is divided due to the Giostra del Saracino.
