Villa Leuchtenberg is a manor house with a park on the shores of Lake Constance in what is now the Lindau district of Reutin. Cosmus Schindler's descendants used the villa only as a summer vacation home, and its maintenance became increasingly difficult for the heirs. In 1973, the city of Lindau had a lakeside path built right through the grounds in front of the villa. In 1991 and again in 1995, the now unoccupied villa burned, causing further damage from the firefighting water. After standing empty for over 30 years, the buildings were renovated from 2005 to 2008 and have since been used as residential and office space.

Théodelinde de Beauharnais (1814–1857) acquired the so-called Haugsche Gut, consisting of the customs house, several outbuildings and the property, and had the customs house converted into a summer villa in the so-called Maximilian style from 1853 to 1855 under the construction management of the Munich architect Anton Harrer.
