In 1798, Kirn innkeeper Jakob Andres, who was actually a tanner, began supplying other inns with the beers he had originally brewed for his own use. This date is now considered the company's founding date. He quickly gave up the tannery and devoted himself entirely to his inn and brewing beer. In 1814/15, the brewery began to expand, attracting more and more customers from the surrounding area of Kirn. In 1824, Jakob Andres died and left the brewery to his son, Johann Phillip Andres (1800–1874). He closed his own inn and devoted himself entirely to beer.
