The historic patrician houses in the old town of Bad Orb are among the most magnificent half-timbered buildings in Hesse and predominantly date from the 16th and 17th centuries. With their artfully carved beams, bay windows, and ornaments, they bear witness to the former prosperity of the salt traders and salt counts, who became rich through salt production. Particularly impressive examples of this era are the magnificent Salzgrafenhaus on the market square and the historic Henkershaus.

The Philippsquelle is one of the three state-recognized healing springs in Bad Orb, whose carbonated brine is extracted from a depth of around 73 meters. Its saline brine (with around 1.6% brine content) feeds, among other things, the Gradierwerk (graduation works) and the pools of the Toskana Therme, and is used for brine baths and inhalation therapies. In honor of the healing water, a dedicated spring temple has been erected on the historic city wall, which today, for reasons of spring protection, is symbolically operated with fresh water.
