After the ferry Middelanis was "taken out of Rhine traffic" due to old age, unfortunately no ship sailed between Hitdorf and Langel for several months. Now the new ferry St. Michael has been rented for the time being and all the necessary processes are currently being tested before ferry service can resume around next week 🤗🚴♂️🚴♀️⛴️👌

Information board: "By removing the non-native poplars, the potentially natural vegetation should be given space to develop." Phew, now nationalism is getting into botany. No, poplars shouldn't go away because they would be "strange and unnatural". But because they evaporate too much and the fracture dries out even further than the lowering of the groundwater level from coal mining. Otherwise, I would welcome any plant that defies global warming.

The path itself is dead straight and too tidy for me. But what you see to the right and left is a wonderfully overgrown landscape. Until a few years ago you could still get across on old dams. Today they are completely overgrown. The former entrances can only be recognized by the prohibition signs.

The area was placed under “nature protection” and closed. You can now only recognize a number of dams where anglers, basket makers and wood collectors once came and went, only on ground maps https://t1p.de/a9ej3 and on rusty prohibition signs. Without people, blackberries, nettles and ground-nesting birds spread there. Beautiful artificial natural paradise.
