De Grenswachter is one of the four bakery museums in the Netherlands. In addition to the aforementioned workshops, the museum is also open to the public. Enjoy baking demonstrations in a wood-fired oven from 1850, or a beer tasting combined with a sausage roll workshop. The museum has developed special baking programs for the blind and visually impaired, such as ‘Baking with Feeling’ and ‘Feeling Sculptures’. Consequently, the museum welcomes a wide variety of guests, such as expats from major companies in the Brainport region, who learn all about typical Brabant crafts from the multilingual volunteers. The St. Martin's Church in Luyksgestel dates from 1958 and is therefore not particularly old. However, it does house a number of remarkable works of art originating from old chapels in the vicinity of the village: a wooden crucifix from around 1500, a statue of Mary from 1650, and various statues from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries, as well as a pulpit from 1843, which formerly stood in St. John's in 's-Hertogenbosch. Grenspark De Kempen is a vast nature reserve on the border between the Netherlands and Belgium, where forests, heathlands, and old farmlands alternate. The area has a tranquil, almost timeless atmosphere: wide sandy paths, quiet pine forests, open plains, and heathland that turns purple in summer. Throughout the centuries, this border region was a place where smuggling routes, ancient trade routes, and boundary markers defined the landscape. Much of that history is still visible today, for example, in the old boundary stones and the straight paths once constructed for military surveillance. The area is now protected and forms one of the largest contiguous nature reserves in the region. You'll find abundant wildlife there, such as deer, birds of prey, and in wetter areas, even salamanders and frogs. It's an ideal walking area for those seeking tranquility, as large parts of Grenspark De Kempen have remained remarkably empty and untouched.

De Grenswachter Mill (Luyksgestel) De Grenswachter Mill is a striking octagonal belt mill dating from 1891, built on a hill so that the sails could catch the wind above the flat landscape surrounding Luyksgestel. For many years, the mill ground grain for the farmers in the region and is known for its powerful wind catch due to its open location near the Belgian border. After periods of inactivity, the mill has been lovingly restored and now regularly operates again powered by volunteer millers. Inside, you can still see how the old milling mechanism works: wooden gears, flour chutes, and the original millstone. It is a recognizable landmark on the edge of the village and a beautiful piece of living heritage. Traditional Bakery Luyksgestel The bakery in Luyksgestel is part of the mill and together forms a small, historic, artisanal complex. In the past, the grain ground in De Grenswachter was processed directly into bread and pastries for the village. The tradition of true craftsmanship has always remained: fresh bread, local specialties, and products still made the old-fashioned way. The building itself has a charming, almost nostalgic feel and fits in beautifully with the mill complex. For many visitors, it's a pleasant stop during a tour of the village or the surrounding border region.

The Holy Cross Chapel stands on the edge of Luyksgestel and has been a beloved place for peace and reflection for centuries. Originally dating from the 15th century, the chapel was connected to an ancient Crosier tradition in the region. Over the years, the building fell into disrepair several times, but was always renovated by residents who cherished the chapel. The simple brick building is beautifully tucked away among greenery and field paths. Inside, it is small but charming, with a modest altar and a few candle holders. Its location along ancient routes once made the chapel a stopping place for travelers and pilgrims, and that feeling still lingers: quiet, rural, and somewhat timeless.
