In the 13th-15th century, Beringen was a thriving small-regional trading center with a fairly important wool industry. The main trade routes were: Brussels-Düsseldorf, Diest-Venlo, and Antwerp-Cologne. The latter distance was covered in three days, with Beringen serving as a resting place. This is still evidenced by inns/stables in the center of Beringen, including the former 17th-century Hotel ‘de Kroon’, in Brugstraat, and ‘Sint-Antonius’ in Hoogstraat. The corner house Sint-Antonius is dated ANNO 1634 by two facade stones on the second floor. It has a remarkable decoration with fish motifs among the usual neoclassical and neo-rocaille ornaments, dating from the cementation in the second half of the 19th century.

This former school, located next to the church, is one of the oldest secondary schools in Limburg and dates back to 1250. The then Latin college was a cradle for students from the region for centuries. The main building dates from 1847 and, after a major fire, was partly replaced in 1909 by the current building. In the 20th century, the prestige of the college continued to grow, as did the number of students. Expansion into an impressive building with a study hall, chapel, games room, and rooms for the priest-teachers became necessary. On October 3, 1933, the first stone was laid. A document about this first stone laying was found in a leaden tube during the renovation in 2020. In 2017, the students moved to the new school campus Spectrumcollege Beringen. Since 2021, the Town Hall of Beringen has been housed in the former school. The facade and the former chapel of the college, now used as a council and wedding hall, have been preserved.

The monument "5x Beringen" represents the twinning of the 7 municipalities with the same name. 5x Beringen is an association of seven cities and municipalities with the same name from five European countries: Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Every three years, a large twinning festival takes place, each time in a different municipality. It is an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the people of Beringen and for the youth to get to know the other Be(h)ringe(n) municipalities. The friendship and partnership between these seven communities are unique worldwide. Five countries. Seven places. One name. Together they form an extraordinary association.
