The Montfortan fathers were intensively involved in the veneration of Mary. They chose the corner of Meylweg and Ooststatiestraat to erect a Marian chapel. After very difficult negotiations with Miss Spruyt, the owner of the Bautersem court, they not only received the land but all costs were also paid by her. However, it took almost forever before they saw this reclusive lady's money. The chapel still stands and is well maintained
