At the Grenadier Bridge, a so-called Landmark commemorates the Battle of the Grenadiers of November 1918. The landmark forms a duo with the opposite bank in Eke, because at this location, just before the armistice of WWI, French and Belgian Grenadiers managed to reach the other side via a bridgehead over the Scheldt, despite heavy German fire.
