Rockanje is a former manor and seaside resort located on the North Sea coast in the Dutch province of South Holland. Rockanje belongs to the municipality of Voorne aan Zee. Around 1200, a place called Rochange was located on the western tip of what was then Voorne, which was much larger than the present-day island of Voorne. This area was washed away around 1214 during one of the floods that formed the Haringvliet. Soon after, the reclamation of the flooded areas, where possible, was undertaken with the help of Cistercian monks from Ter Doest Abbey in the Flemish village of Lissewege near Bruges. The first polder created was named Oud-Rockanje. Source and more information: Wikipedia
