There's a particularly wide beach here. It's fascinating to see the comparison between the old concrete dike and the new natural dike.

By order of the German occupier, the village of Petten was evacuated on 21 August 1942 and completely demolished between June 1943 and May 1944 due to the construction of the Atlantic Wall. The church also had to be demolished in 1944. Only the colony house and a few summer homes in the Korfwater (north of Petten) were allowed to remain. In 1946, reconstruction began. First in temporary wooden housing. A memorial was erected in the new Petten, for which the stones of the demolished 18th century church were used. Anyone who still remembers the old state of the beach (it never existed) will not believe their eyes. This stretch of beach between Petten and Camperduin shows what is possible with washed-up sand and good ideas. A must!! Look at the old pictures online and be amazed...
