Kampen is by far the most snobbish place on the island. While the houses are mostly thatched and built in the Frisian style, they are mostly not old. Much of Kampen has a "slicked-down" feel and therefore lacks a sense of authenticity. From Kampen, it's just a stone's throw to the "Red Cliff," a must-see. The beautiful lighthouse, "Long Christian," is also within walking distance from Kampen. Incidentally, this lighthouse was painted yellow-gray until 1953 and was commissioned by the Danish king in the 19th century. Sylt was, in fact, Danish property at the time, after the then imperialist Denmark had occupied large parts of Schleswig-Holstein.

The Ellenbogen is the northernmost part of the island and a unique nature reserve, also characterized by free-roaming sheep. From here, the Danish island of Rømø is only 4 kilometers away. Sylt, by the way, lies on the plains of southern Scotland, so it is indeed very north.

Beautiful bike ride from Westerland to Kampen Lighthouse, Uwe Dune, Red Cliff, and the Cross-Marker Lighthouse Tower. Very worthwhile. Mostly flat.
