The Roman Catholic Helena Church, also known as the Nieuwe Helena Church or Sint-Helena, is located south of the center of Aalten along the course of the Boven-Slinge river. The church tower consists of four sections, with the entrance in the lower section. Above this is a large pointed arch window with a polyphore. The clock is mounted in the upper section, and the facade is crowned with pointed arch friezes. A spire atop the tower. To the right of the church tower is a smaller stair tower. The nave is designed as a pseudo-basilica, with round-arched windows with stained glass in the side facades. Due to declining church attendance, the Roman Catholic Helena Church in Aalten has been withdrawn from worship. The last Eucharistic celebration took place there on June 12, 2022. The parish of St. Paul and Ludger Oost Achterhoek has sold the church and the adjacent rectory. Catholics can now attend Eucharistic celebrations in Groenlo or Lichtenvoorde. Parishioners are welcome to attend prayer services at the Old Helena Church on the Markt square, owned by the Protestant Community (PG) of Aalten. A statue of Saint Helena once stood in the garden of the Roman Catholic Helena Church. This statue was moved to the garden of the Old Helena Church on the Landstraat side, approximately 250 meters north as the crow flies. (https://oudaalten.nl/aalten/dijkstraat/dijkstraat-11/)
