You are standing here at the second highest elevation in the city of Münster in Westphalian Münsterland. The Mühlenberg is part of the Nienberger Höhen, which represent the approximately 4 km long southeast of the Altenberger Rücken on Münster territory and correspond to the current nature reserve Vorbergs Hügel.

Vorbergs Hügel is a nature reserve designated in 1994, covering 311.62 hectares, in the northwest of the Westphalian city of Münster. The namesake Vorbergshügel (99.4 m above sea level) and the Mühlenberg (97.9 m above sea level) to the northwest rise about 40 meters above the city area and form its highest elevations. Vorbergs Hügel begins west of Kinderhaus and ends at the city limits, from where the Altenberger Höhenrücken seamlessly continues to the northwest. On the southern side is the Nienberge district, and on the northern side is Häger. Vorbergs Hügel is the most significant forest area in the north of Münster. Deciduous forest dominates the hill chain, and the summits are covered with forest. Typical are hedges and hedge-like vegetation cultures, which also extend through the hilly landscape. In a few places, Vorbergs Hügel is interrupted by fields. Thus, the hills are a typical part of the Münsterland park landscape. Rare plants find their habitat in the hill chain, including yellow rattle and wild garlic, bear bean, meadow foenugreek, and millet sedge. 47 plants that are on the red list of endangered species occur in the hill chain. This was one of the reasons, among others, why Vorbergs Hügel was designated as a nature reserve in 1998.

The area covers approximately 311 hectares and was officially designated a nature reserve in 1994, among other things to protect rare plants and animals. The eponymous Vorbergshügel (Vorberg Hill), at 99.4 m above sea level, is Münster's highest elevation. Other hills include the Mühlenberg (97.9 m), the Hägerfelder Teil (up to 95.2 m), and the Wilbrenniger Teil. Geologically, the range of hills forms the southeastern end of the so-called Altenberger Ridge, which reaches up to 119 m high. Its characteristic features include species-rich deciduous forests, hedges, and landscapes interspersed with meadows and fields, representing a typical Münsterland park landscape. The area is particularly worthy of protection due to the presence of rare plants (such as broomrape, wild garlic, and bear's pod) and animals (e.g., the crested newt and the small black-tailed darter). A total of 47 plant species and numerous animal species on the Red List are native here. The hill range is important for regional nature conservation and is widely used as a local recreation area. Gravel paths and trails invite cycling and hiking. The Vorbergs Hügel (Vorberg Hill) was named after Münster's highest elevation, which reaches up to 99.4 meters and lies between the Nienberge district and Kinderhaus. The diverse hedges, including blackthorn and hawthorn hedges, are a traditional landscape feature of the core Münsterland region.
