Kladruby is a very beautiful stud. Kolin is also worth seeing. We didn't like the bike paths. You either cycle on a road or on forest or meadow paths, some of them with scree.

Very nice stele in the center of Kutna Hora. Unfortunately too often left out because there are so many other special places.

The plague Column in Kutná Hora, also known as the Column of the Virgin Mary Immaculate, is located in Šultysova street in Kutná Hora in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It is protected as a cultural heritage. This baroque plague column was built by the Jesuit sculptor František Baugut. It originated between 1713 and 1715 as a commemoration of the contemporary plague which killed more than a thousand people. The column is decorated by the statue of the Virgin Mary Immaculate and Kutná Hora's typical labor themes (reliefs of miners).

The terrain in Přírodní Památka Kačina is generally lowland with gentle elevation changes, mostly within a few meters, though some areas can reach up to thirty meters. This makes for a pleasant road cycling experience, allowing you to enjoy the 'composed landscape' of the chateau park and its natural surroundings. Many routes feature mostly paved surfaces, ideal for road bikes.
Yes, there are easy options. For instance, the Roadbike loop from Nové Dvory is an easy route covering about 26.5 kilometers with minimal elevation gain, perfect for a relaxed ride. Another easy option is the St. Vitus Church, Kolín – Kolín Town Hall loop from Kolín, which is around 29 kilometers.
The focal point of the area is the stunning Empire-style Kačina Chateau, a national cultural monument. The chateau park itself is a highlight, featuring diverse tree species, including ancient oaks, pines, and exotic additions like Tyrolean larches and mulberries. You might also encounter picturesque chestnut and lime tree alleys, and a stone bridge flanked by massive plane trees. The park also includes wetland biotopes like small ponds and an oxbow lake of the Klejnárka stream.
For those seeking a longer ride, the Plague Column, Kutná Hora loop from Kutná Hora město offers a moderate challenge. This route extends for approximately 60 kilometers and includes more substantial elevation changes, providing a more demanding cycling adventure while still focusing on low-traffic roads.
Yes, the generally lowland relief and the presence of easy, mostly paved routes make Přírodní Památka Kačina suitable for family-friendly road cycling. The gentle elevation changes and the scenic, composed landscape of the chateau park offer a pleasant environment for riders of all ages, especially on the shorter, easy loops.
The area is beautiful throughout the warmer months. Spring brings blooming flora and fresh greenery, while summer offers long daylight hours. Autumn provides stunning fall foliage. Given the focus on no-traffic routes, avoiding peak tourist times might enhance the tranquility, but the paths are generally well-suited for cycling from spring through early autumn.
While primarily designed for walking, the Kačina Chateau park features educational trails like the 'Naučná stezka Zámecký park Kačina' (Chateau Park Educational Trail) and the 'Naučná stezka Ze života hmyzu na Kačině' (Insect Life Educational Trail). Cyclists can dismount and explore these trails on foot to learn more about the history, nature, and biodiversity of the park.
Parking is generally available near the Kačina Chateau, which serves as a central point for exploring the natural monument. Specific parking areas for cyclists are often indicated, and you can usually find suitable spots to begin your ride around the chateau or in nearby villages like Nové Dvory or Kutná Hora, depending on your chosen starting point.
Dogs are generally welcome in the outdoor areas of Přírodní Památka Kačina and on public cycling routes, provided they are kept on a leash and owners clean up after them. Specific rules may apply within the immediate vicinity of the chateau or on certain educational trails, so it's always best to observe local signage.
The routes highlighted in this guide are specifically curated to utilize quieter country roads, designated cycling paths, and the extensive network within the Kačina Chateau park. This focus on less-trafficked areas allows cyclists to enjoy the scenic beauty and historical landscape without the constant presence of motor vehicles, providing a more peaceful and immersive experience.
