A very beautiful view, homemade ingredients for food. Friendly hostess. Would also be good as accommodation.

Let's dance the Balkans: A 12-stage cycle tour. Stage 3 from Mojkovac to Durdevica Tara. The night before we stayed at the Tara Valley Ecolounge, a bucolic site with clean bungalows, where if you ask in advance they can prepare dinner for you in an outdoor area, offering you the products they produce on the farm. We arrived a little late and went by bike to the Most restaurant on the river, riding a few romantic kilometers with the lights on. Stage 3 is quite easy, we allow ourselves a relaxed start after a hearty breakfast in the outdoor area in the still warm morning. Today's stage follows a stretch of asphalt road along the Tara River, starting to enter the Durmitor National Park. As you climb, you enter a magnificent centuries-old conifer forest, grown boldly on rugged pinnacles and limestone walls, which little by little completely surrounds us. At the bottom of the valley, the Tara flows ever further away. The road, also due to renovation work, is not used by cars. We meet a Dutch cycle traveler who has been traveling for six weeks (I would not want to be between her legs). Lots of photo shots and we arrive at the historic reinforced concrete trellis bridge over the Tara River, built between 1937 and 1939, it remains a daring construction that crosses the river gorge with a height of almost 180m. Despite the years it shows off and is a regular destination for tourists passing through. We thought of dedicating the next day to rafting, which we had already booked not without difficulty via internet/phone from home. It was interesting, but also due to the season the current was not strong and we also rowed at times. If you were interested in this activity, perhaps it would be better to try further north, where, in Bosnian territory, the 2 rivers Tara and Piva join to form the Drina River. Perhaps the flows will be more satisfying for a nice rafting, in the Bastasi area (BiH), where there are also several rafting centers.

The old reinforced concrete truss bridge is almost 100 years old but it makes a fine show of itself. It is a must-see if you are passing through here.

The view from the top of Ćurevac is extraordinary. This spot offers an extraordinary viewpoint on the Tara Gorge. In addition, a track along the ridge allows you to discover several different viewpoints on this gorge.

For breathtaking views, visit View of the Tara Gorge and the Durmitor Massif from Ćurevac, which offers an extraordinary perspective after a short hike. Another excellent spot is View of the Tara Gorge, especially from the top of Ćurevac, where a ridge track provides multiple vantage points. Mount Tara also offers spectacular viewpoints like Banjska Stena.
Yes, the Drina River and its tributary, the Tara, are popular for whitewater rafting, with options ranging from wild rapids to sections suitable for beginners. For a more relaxed experience, boat cruises are available on the calmer sections of the Drina and its artificial lakes, such as Perućac Lake and Zvornik Lake, allowing you to explore the canyons and enjoy the scenery.
The region is rich in history. Don't miss the UNESCO World Heritage site, the 16th-century Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge in Višegrad. Other notable historical sites include the Stari Grad Fortress in Užice, the remains of the Medieval Town of Djurdjevac, and the Old Town Klotjevac, all offering glimpses into the region's past.
The Drina Canyon and surrounding areas, including Sutjeska National Park and Mount Tara, offer numerous hiking trails. For easy hikes, you can explore routes like the 'Start of Curevac Trail – Bench Overlooking Tara Canyon loop' which is around 3-4 km. More challenging options are also available, such as those found in the waterfall hikes guide or the easy hikes guide.
Absolutely. The region offers various cycling routes for different skill levels. You can find routes like the 'Climb to Park Prirode Piva loop' or the 'Biogradsko Lake – Kolašin town center loop' which are more challenging. For more options, refer to the Cycling around the Drina guide.
Yes, several attractions are suitable for families. The short hike to View of the Tara Gorge and the Durmitor Massif from Ćurevac is considered family-friendly. The Drina River House, perched on a rock, is also a unique and picturesque spot that often captivates children. Additionally, the calmer sections of the Drina River and its lakes are ideal for boat trips, which can be a fun family activity.
Beyond historical landmarks, you can visit Andrićgrad (Stone Town) in Višegrad, a cultural center inspired by Ivo Andrić. East of the Drina Valley, Drvengrad (Kustendorf/Mećavnik) is an all-wooden ethno-village built by film director Emir Kusturica. The Dobrun Orthodox Christian Monastery is also an attraction for those interested in sacred architecture. The region also features medieval necropolises with Stećak tombstones, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge in Višegrad is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a 16th-century Ottoman-era architectural masterpiece designed by Mimar Sinan. It gained international fame through Ivo Andrić's Nobel Prize-winning novel, "The Bridge on the Drina," making it a significant cultural symbol of the region.
The National Park "Drina" is particularly notable for its habitats of endemic and relict plant species. Here, you can find the Pancic Spruce, a species once widespread across Europe but now limited to areas around the middle course of the Drina River, making it a unique botanical highlight.
Visitors frequently praise the stunning natural beauty, especially the emerald-green waters of the Drina River and the dramatic canyons. The impressive bridges, like Djurdjevica Tara Bridge, are also highly appreciated for their views. Many enjoy the blend of natural wonders with significant historical and cultural sites, offering a diverse experience.
While much of the Drina region's natural landscape involves rugged terrain, the Kolašin town center is noted as wheelchair accessible. For specific attractions, it's advisable to check individual site accessibility, as many historical sites and viewpoints may have uneven paths or stairs.
The Drina region is beautiful year-round, but the best time to visit generally depends on your preferred activities. Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures for hiking and exploring historical sites, with lush greenery or vibrant fall colors. Summer is ideal for water activities like rafting and boat cruises, though it can be warmer. The annual Drina Regatta, a festive event, takes place in the summer.
