The monument "Ett 650-årsminne" was created by the Finnish artist Harry Kivijärvi. It commemorates the peace treaty of 1343 at Varberg Castle and the election of the king, which took place at the same time. The elected king was the three-year-old Håkan Magnusson (born 1340). He was elected king of Norway by Norwegian magnates, but Håkan was still far from reaching adulthood at that time. He was King of Norway from 1343 to 1380, and King of Sweden from 1362 to 1364.

The first construction of a castle already took place here in 1287. The current fortress complex is impressively large.

A short detour from the promenade takes you into a different little world. Here the path goes between two small walls of natural rock, giving you a Jurassic Park feeling that feels so different from the path you just came from.
