Both buildings and structures date from about 1890 to 1950 and include residences, businesses, and other institutional buildings. This is a very cute railroad town and aptly named after the wooded summited 247 m high hill where it took its name from.

Chapin fits in neatly into the northern tip of Lexington County. As such it is the main access town to Lake Murray with over 500 miles of coastline. With this type of access there are water activities aplenty and lake side roads to bike around.
