Contrary to popular belief, the seven crosses do not refer to the clashes on Pasubio, but rather to seven farmers who killed each other over grazing issues in the pre-war era.

The first plans for the construction of a refuge on Pasubio date back to 1907. However, they were not realized until after the First World War, when the Schio section of the CAI began to build a refuge in memory of the soldiers who had fallen on Pasubio. It was in this very place, on July 10, 1916, that Lieutenant Cesare Battisti and Second Lieutenant Fabio Filzi, irredentists from Trentino, were captured by Austro-Hungarian soldiers: the two, in an attempt to conquer the peak together with a handful of infantrymen, were taken prisoner and taken to Trento, where two days later they were summarily tried and hanged in the courtyard of the Buonconsiglio Castle, for high treason. The rocky promontory, known during the conflict as 'Corno di Vallarsa', was renamed 'Corno Battisti' after the war, in memory of the historical figure who still arouses divisive thoughts: contextualized in the historical period, on the Austro-Hungarian side he was a traitor, while on the Italian side he was a patriot (and glorified for this in the fascist era). https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cesare_Battisti https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabio_Filzi https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irredentismo_italiano

Komoot features over 30 hiking routes in Gruppo Del Pasubio that are suitable for families. While many are rated moderate to difficult, there are also easier options to explore with younger children.
The Gruppo Del Pasubio region offers diverse terrain, from lush green valleys and forests of beech and chestnut to more dramatic limestone massifs with steep slopes and rocky formations. Many family-friendly paths follow historic military roads, offering relatively stable surfaces, but some routes may include sections with more elevation gain or uneven ground. Always check the route details for specific terrain information.
Yes, there are several circular options. For a moderate family hike with historical significance, consider the Corno Battisti – Vincenzo Lancia Hut loop from Giazzera. This route offers a good balance of distance and elevation, making it a rewarding experience for active families.
Gruppo Del Pasubio is an open-air museum of the Great War. Many trails pass by remnants of this era, including trenches, tunnels, and monuments. You might encounter sites like the Generale D'Havet Tunnel or the Vincenzo Lancia Hut, which often served as strategic points or shelters. These offer a unique educational experience for families.
The best time for family hiking is generally from late spring to early autumn (May to October). During these months, the weather is milder, trails are typically clear of snow, and mountain huts are open. Summer offers warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours, while autumn brings beautiful foliage. Always check local weather forecasts before heading out.
Absolutely! The region is known for its stunning views. Many trails offer panoramic vistas of the Vicenza Prealps and the distinctive 'dolomitic' characteristics of the massif. You'll find breathtaking views of rocky formations, lush valleys, and the surrounding mountain landscape. The View of the Little Dolomites – Rifugio Lancia loop, for example, is specifically named for its scenic outlooks.
Many trails in Gruppo Del Pasubio are dog-friendly, but it's always best to check specific route regulations and local signage. Ensure your dog is well-behaved, kept on a leash, and that you carry waste bags. Some areas, especially those with sensitive wildlife or historical sites, might have restrictions. Always respect local guidelines to protect both nature and historical integrity.

While many routes in this guide are rated moderate, there are options that are more accessible. Look for routes described as 'easy' or those with minimal elevation gain. The region's historic military roads, such as sections of the Strada degli Scarubbi, often provide wider, less strenuous paths suitable for younger hikers. Always check the distance and elevation profile to match your family's capabilities.
Access to the Gruppo Del Pasubio trails often involves driving to specific starting points or mountain passes. Many popular trailheads, especially those leading to historic routes, have designated parking areas, though these can fill up quickly during peak season. Some areas may also be accessible via local public transport, but options can be limited. It's advisable to research specific access points and parking availability for your chosen route in advance.
