The Central University Library building is one of the most beautiful cultural institutions in Bucharest and was founded on May 3, 1891 as the “Carol I University Foundation”. Construction was completed in 1893. During the 1989 revolution, the building was set on fire, resulting in the loss of an important collection of rare books.
