Very friendly staff. Especially the groundskeeper was helpful and accommodating in all respects. The site itself meets modern standards and there are restaurants and shops nearby. All in all, would gladly come again. LG

The Protestant village church in Klitzschen, a district of Mockrehna in the Saxon district of Nordsachsen, is an architectural jewel from the Romanesque period. First mentioned around 1200, the church is a well-preserved Romanesque hall church, which was supplemented with a vault in the choir over the centuries, especially in the 14th/15th century. Further restorations in 1965 and 1993 helped to preserve the building's original charm. The quarry stone building, which was built using bog ironstone, shows a clear three-part staggering in hall, choir and apse. An octagonal wooden roof turret with a curved hood from the 17th/18th century crowns the gable roof. The sacristy with a lean-to roof is attached to the north side. While some windows, such as the central apse window, are still in their original Romanesque state, others have been enlarged and provided with pointed arches and, in some cases, trefoil tracery. Inside, the church impresses with a painted panel ceiling from the end of the 17th century, which shows depictions of prophets, apostles, reformers, trees and the dove of the Holy Spirit in grisaille painting. The choir with groin vault and the three-sided gallery as well as the patron's box from the end of the 17th century are further highlights. Art-historical treasures such as the three-story altar from 1690, the ornamentally painted pulpit, a simple wooden baptismal font and a late Gothic sacrament niche from the 15th century make the church an important cultural center. The church stands in the cemetery and is located on the Ecumenical Pilgrimage Route (Way of St. James), which leads through Klitzschen.
