On Sundays it's as busy as a motorway, a great shady route with several benches along the way.

The town hall was built in the 14th century as a sandstone building. An information board explains that its size was designed to accommodate an expansion of the town area. The ground floor was probably used as a department store. The building served as a barn for a time until it was restored in 1934/1935. The slated tower above the staircase is an addition based on plans by Friedrich Bleibaum. The central entrance on the market square side was restored and provided with a two-flight staircase. The oak supports on the ground floor were probably already part of the department store.

Elmarshausen moated castle The place was first mentioned in documents in 1123 as "Egelmareshusun". After the Lords of Helfenberg and Gudenberg, Hermann von der Malsburg received the estate as a fief in 1534, which has been in the family ever since. Von der Malsburg had the castle of the Lords of Gudenberg converted into a palace. Elmarshausen Castle was built in the style of the so-called Weser Renaissance. This is evident, among other things, in the partially preserved east facade of the castle, whose dormer windows end with semicircular tops ("Weser gables"). Elmarshausen is therefore the southernmost example of this architectural style. Various renovations in the 18th and 19th centuries changed the work completed in 1563. The Renaissance gables were partially replaced by flat triangular gables. Elmarshausen Castle was an independent estate district and has been a district of Wolfhagen since 1928. The castle complex now houses an important Trakehner stud farm. For animal and disease protection reasons, it may not be entered without permission. Guided tours for groups are offered upon prior registration.
