"Brændegård" was originally a three-story building that belonged to "Mariegaard". The estate's carriages and horses were housed here, and the coachmen and employees lived here. There was a fire station here around 1900 - perhaps hence the name? The dyer Frederik Hansen started his dyeing business here before setting up a dye factory by the river at Jels Søndergade 10-12 in 1912.
