The Rainbow Springs Lake via Mukwonago River Trail offers an easy hiking experience through varied landscapes. You will wander through dense woodlands, open meadows, and along the clear waters of Rainbow Spring Lake. This route covers 2.6 miles (4.2 km) with a gentle elevation gain of just 76 feet (23 metres), making it a relaxing outing that typically takes about 1 hour and 4 minutes to complete.

Planning your visit is straightforward, as the property is open year-round for activities like hiking and wildlife viewing. There is no admission fee or park sticker required, and you can usually find parking available at the trailheads. The trail itself is well-marked and maintained, ensuring easy navigation for all visitors, regardless of experience level.

As you hike, keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that calls this area home. The clear waters of Rainbow Spring Lake are often home to fish, while the surrounding forest and meadows attract deer, foxes, and many bird species. Easy

Embark on an easy hike along the Vernon Wildlife Preserve Trail, a 2.1-mile (3.4 km) route that takes you through a diverse landscape of wetlands, grasslands, and oak forests. You'll gain a gentle 22 feet (7 metres) in elevation, making this a perfect choice for a quick outdoor escape that takes about 52 minutes to complete. As you walk, you can enjoy scenic views of the Fox River, a designated National Water Trail, which meanders through the preserve.

When planning your visit, be aware that while new boardwalks are improving accessibility, some areas remain rustic. Parking is generally available, and you can use maintenance roads as part of the trail system. Note that two no-entry waterfowl refuges within the preserve are seasonally closed between September 1st and November 30th, with exceptions for specific hunting periods.

This trail offers a unique opportunity to experience a rich natural environment, including a calcareous fen and varied habitats. The preserve is well-known for its abundant wildlife, so keep an eye out for migratory birds, deer, and turkeys during your hike, making it an excellent spot for nature observation.
