In the Assberg slate mine you can learn a lot about slate mining in Kroppacher Switzerland. Among other things, a tour at a depth of 20 meters is possible. But I don't want to reveal more. ;)

Healing Spring (Windeck-Ohmbach)

A pretty little retreat with benches and history. In addition to the saint whose eyes were (allegedly) healed here, other healed people have also immortalized themselves with stones.

the waterfall... artificially created during the construction of the railway 150 years ago, when a loop was shortened to gain building land. there are signs, but there isn't normally that much water. A local attraction.

Directly behind the Sieg waterfall, some smart and creative people have opened the ELMORES beer garden and lounge on the old copper works site. There are many bizarre things to discover. The break is also enriched with many tasty snacks or waffles and cakes in the afternoon. If you like, you can also enjoy one of the numerous well-made cocktails. We had only planned a short break and ended up staying at this great location for 90 minutes. On this bike tour, in our opinion, an absolute must.

At this point / I would like to quickly / say something about the source: To quote the incomparable humorist Heinz Erhardt (1909 - 1979), who was known to a wide audience for his word jokes and "Noch'n poem", with a short quatrain: "There is certainly much beauty in on the element, the wet. Because you can drink the water. But you can - also leave it." (H.Erhardt)

A highlight of the slate mine is the opportunity to descend 20 meters into the tunnel. The mine has served as a supplier of slate roof tiles for Marienstatt Abbey and Hachenburg Castle since the Middle Ages. Having fallen into oblivion and only discovered by chance in an old document, the mine was rediscovered after a 17-year search and subsequently restored. Located directly on the Westerwaldsteig hiking trail, the mine is open to visitors year-round.

"... The Heilbrunnen or sometimes Heiligenbrunnen in the municipality of Windeck in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district is located below the village of Ohmbach in the direction of Igelshof. Legend: According to legend, an aristocratic daughter is said to have taken a last rest here in front of the Herchen monastery. She was blind, according to one version, because her father had blinded a commoner for a minor offence. After drinking the water, she was able to see, and the abbess of the Herchen monastery had the spring surrounded. According to this legend, further miraculous healings are said to have happened through the Born. Watercourse: After a few meters, the spring flows into the Heilbrunnensiefen. This in turn flows into the Igelsbach between Werfermühle and Igelshof, which is an orographic left tributary of the Sieg. ..." https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heilbrunnen_(Windeck)
