The shooting range in Katharinenholz near Bornim is over 200 years old. It was created from 1810 for the 1st Foot Guards Regiment, but over time more and more units received their rifle training there. Around 1900 there were eight shooting lanes of 300 and 600 meters in length. Because there were always complaints about bullets flying around, the first bullet traps were set up in 1872. In the beginning, these were simple, seven meter high earthen walls. In 1890/1891 the first solid brick bullet traps followed. The shooting range was used until 1960, most recently by the Russians.
