For me, the Hexentrail is the most beautiful trail in the Freiburg area. It is not as technically demanding as Canadian, Borderline or Baden to the Bone, but it has something to offer for all levels of difficulty. It is suitable for beginners, but the necessary respect should not be lacking. Even for advanced riders, jumps, higher steps and flowing sections alternate. A really successful trail in itself. You can also see the work that Mountainbike Freiburg e. V. puts into it. The trail is constantly being improved and new elements added. Thank you very much for your work.

This trail is not for everyone as mentioned above. It requires experience and is not for beginners!!! Please leave these sayings, unfortunately the emergency doctor has to be called too often.

Flowing, playful trail without major hurdles. Also very feasible for a 62-year-old e-MTBiker like me. Berms, a few roots, short steep sections nicely integrated into sunken paths, smaller jumps (for enthusiasts) and some rooty hairpin bends are also included. I particularly like sections 1 and 2 (sections 1 and 2 of the borderline trail are really of a different caliber).

Great trail. Something for everyone. Clear recommendation. Uphill can also be done without an E;)

After the first, very rough sections, the borderline first becomes flatter, tamer and more flowing (you can also only get on the trail here). Then the jump line follows, which comes up with some tables and neighbors. Everything can also be rolled over and is therefore ideal for practicing jumps. Then, by the way, it gets steeper and a little rougher again (but never as rough as at the beginning).

The Horben area, including the surrounding Freiburg and Schauinsland region, offers several highly-regarded bike parks and trails. Among the most popular are the Hexentrail Mountain Bike Trail located directly in Horben, the Canadian Trail known for its flow, and the challenging Borderline trail, which includes Borderline Section 5 with its jump line.
Yes, several trails offer sections suitable for beginners. The Hexentrail Mountain Bike Trail is generally considered easier and more flowy than some of the more challenging options. Additionally, the lower sections of the Canadian Trail are more flowing and clearer, making them suitable for those new to mountain biking.
For advanced riders seeking technical challenges, the Borderline trail is a classic choice, with its upper sections featuring steep, rocky passages and significant steps. The Baden to the Bone trail also offers a rewarding and demanding ride with well-constructed jumps, berms, and steep, rooted sections, making it suitable for non-beginners.
Many of the trails in the Schauinsland and Freiburg area, such as the Canadian Trail and Borderline, are easily reachable from Horben. The Schauinslandbahn (cable car) is a convenient option as it transports bikes, allowing access to the higher starting points of several trails.
The best time to visit is typically from spring through autumn (April to October) when the weather is mild, and trails are dry. During these months, conditions are generally optimal for mountain biking, allowing riders to fully enjoy the flow and technical features of the trails.
While some trails might technically be accessible, winter conditions, including snow, ice, and wet terrain, can make many bike parks and trails around Horben unrideable or significantly more challenging and potentially unsafe. It's generally advisable to check local conditions before planning a winter ride.
The Hexentrail Mountain Bike Trail is known for its fun and fast ride. It offers a perfect mix of flowing passages with jumps and somewhat rougher sections that include root fields.
