May 4, 2026, St. Kolomann Catholic Church, Oberrohrenstadt

St. Koloman The Saalkirche was built in the 18th century using the early Gothic choir tower, which is covered with a pointed helmet between the gables that house the tower clock and the belfry with three church bells. The interior of the nave is spanned by a flat ceiling, that of the choir, i.e. the ground floor of the choir tower, by a cross-ribbed vault. The church furnishings include a high altar built in the mid-17th century, which was later supplemented. The altarpiece of the high altar shows the Assumption of John the Baptist into heaven. The altar is flanked by statues depicting Saint Joachim and Saint Anne. The left side altar shows the church's patron saint, St. Koloman in pilgrim's attire, with the scene of his martyrdom in the background. On both sides of the altarpiece are two figures dressed in monk's habits, whose names cannot be determined. The right side altar shows the Assumption of Mary into heaven, flanked by St. Joseph with the Christ Child (left) and St. Peter holding the keys to heaven. The organ with eight registers on one manual and pedal was built in 1984 by Volkmar Krätzer. Source: Excerpts from www.wikipedia.de

As we all know, there's no arguing about art, and the artist's message isn't always immediately apparent. Today, the "pile" was almost completely overgrown and had merged with nature...

Today (May 24, 2025) we descended from the Dietrichstein and passed by here. I found the legend of the Thierenstein Forest Chapel on the information board particularly interesting.
