All you need to do is remove the tree at the beginning, near the spring, and you can climb better.

With the recent rains it has become muddy, with rocks, sticks, deep gullies,... and even a fallen tree. I was able to go down, but it was impossible for me to get on the bike up the first two ramps.

This tiny section is a challenge, see if you can climb it without putting your foot on the ground! I've only managed it once and that wasn't the case today.

It starts as a track that you can easily take from Palol d Onyar or Can Mascort. Once you are on the stream of Celrè, you continue along the track until Can Soldat. There the track ends and you take a path that climbs quickly behind the house. Now begins a very demanding section due to the strong and long ascents; technically it's not very complicated, but the strong gradient makes me put my foot on the ground and push the bike a few meters. All in all it was worth it, a new way to climb the Ángeles without stepping on a race and putting your physique and technique to the test.

The Girones region offers a diverse range of mountain biking experiences, from dedicated bike parks with built trails to extensive natural trail networks. You can find gravity-focused descents, flowy singletracks, and technical enduro trails. Areas like Santa Coloma de Farners are known for their natural trails with bike park elements, while Les Gavarres provides a vast network catering to cross-country, enduro, and gravel biking.
Yes, advanced riders will find plenty of challenges. For instance, the Pikachu Trail is known for its challenging, flowy, and fun sections, specifically noted as 'nothing for beginners'. Another option is Trail all the way down!, which features various drops and engaging curves for a technical riding experience.
Intermediate riders looking for flowing trails should explore the Gavarres Forest Trail. It's described as a very flowing trail where you can ride at high speed and is considered one of the best descents in the Girona area. Les Gavarres Nature Reserve generally offers many flowy singletracks suitable for various skill levels.
Girona and the surrounding Girones region are generally excellent for mountain biking during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer pleasant temperatures and less extreme weather, making for comfortable riding conditions. Summer can be hot, especially at lower elevations, while winter can be cooler but still rideable on many trails.
While Girones itself focuses more on extensive trail networks, the wider Girona province does feature dedicated bike parks with lift access. La Molina Bike Park, located in the Pyrenees, offers 13 downhill circuits for all skill levels, with a starting elevation of 2400 meters and lift services connecting different areas.
While many trails in Girones are geared towards more experienced riders, the broader region offers options for families. For instance, the extensive network in Les Gavarres includes some calmer, flowy singletracks and gravel paths ('pistas') that can be suitable for less experienced riders or families looking for a more relaxed ride. It's always recommended to check specific trail descriptions for suitability.
Mountain biking in Girones offers diverse natural scenery. You'll often ride through dense forests, such as those found around Les Gavarres, which provide shade and a natural setting. Some trails, like Trail all the way down!, even offer scenic viewpoints along the way. The region's landscape ranges from coastal areas to higher elevations, ensuring varied natural backdrops.
Absolutely! The Girones region is a hub for outdoor activities. Besides mountain biking, you can find numerous MTB Trails, waterfall hikes, and road cycling routes. Popular options include the Carrilet II Greenway Trail for cycling or exploring the Salt del Timbarro for hiking.
Generally, for the extensive network of mountain bike trails in areas like Les Gavarres and Santa Coloma de Farners, specific permits are not required for recreational riding. However, it's always good practice to respect local regulations, stay on marked trails, and be aware of any specific rules for nature reserves. Dedicated bike parks like Pure Riding or La Molina may have their own entry fees or passes.
For those seeking a significant challenge, trails like Singletrack Camí de la Font del Raig offer technical sections with stones, roots, and steep slopes. Another demanding option is the Challenging Rocky Trail in Les Gavarres, which tests riders' skills with its difficult terrain.
Visitors frequently praise the variety and quality of the trails. Many appreciate the 'flowy and fun' sections, as noted for trails like Pikachu. The good condition of trails, engaging curves, and the presence of challenging features like drops also receive positive feedback. The ability to ride at high speed on flowing descents is a common highlight.
While popular spots can see more traffic, the sheer volume of trails, especially within the Les Gavarres Nature Reserve, means you can often find less crowded sections. Exploring some of the lesser-known singletracks or visiting during off-peak hours (weekdays, early mornings) can help you find a more solitary riding experience. The region's extensive network allows for spreading out.
