When in the 15th century what was then Obergreimelscheid came into possession of the relics of St. Lambert von Liège, a pilgrimage developed to the place, for which the pilgrimage church of St. Lambertus was built around 1500. In the 16th century the place name changed to Lambertsberg. The pilgrimage reached its peak in the 18th century. It was not until 1947 that Lambertsberg, which had previously been a branch church of Waxweiler, became an independent parish.
