Definitely! Single track fun, though I bet it could get sloppy in mid winter.

Unfortunately the Forestry Commission have been into Watchwood and removed all the man-made features (jumps) from the downhill runs. However the trails are still rideable & fun, plenty of berms still in place. (July 2021)

@Henry - The original Watchwood Berms were damaged, but now there are currently two new routes "Hanah" & "No Dig No Ride" as well as "Potato Gallery, Jim'll Fix It, Lumberjack Alley, Who's the Daddy, Drop in Boost". There are two straight trails to bring you back up from the bottom to the top again. The start at the concrete Trig point has the big drop in it.

While Caythorpe itself is known for general cycling routes, the surrounding Lincolnshire region offers a variety of off-road cycling experiences. You can find dedicated mountain biking trails with features like berms, jumps, and singletrack, as well as extensive touring routes through diverse landscapes.
Caythorpe does not currently have dedicated, established bike parks within the village. However, the broader Lincolnshire region is planning the Wolds Bike Park, which aims to be a premier facility with various trails and amenities. For now, specific mountain biking trails like Watchwood Berms MTB Trail offer a bike park-like experience.
The Wolds Bike Park is a planned development for the Lincolnshire Wolds, designed to be a premier bike park for all skill levels. It will feature cross-country, cyclo-cross, mountain bike trails (blue to black), a pump track, skills area, and dirt jumps. It also plans to include a visitor center, café, bike shop, and hire station. The project has secured planning permission and is currently seeking funding, so an opening date is not yet set.
Popular mountain biking trails in the area include Watchwood Berms MTB Trail, which is great for practicing cornering with many berms and optional jumps. Another favorite is the Start of Jim Trail, offering a fun descent with berms, drops, and fast corners.
Yes, for easier riding, you can explore Long Mellow Singletrack, which offers a long stretch of trails suitable for a more relaxed experience. The planned Wolds Bike Park also aims to include a learn-to-ride pump track and adaptive trails, catering to all skill levels and age groups.
The cycling routes around Caythorpe and the broader Lincolnshire region feature diverse landscapes. You'll encounter rolling hills, tranquil fenlands, woodlands, and river paths along the River Trent and Sleaford Canal. The terrain varies from easy, flat routes to more challenging paths with moderate elevation gains.
Beyond bike parks and cycling, you can find various outdoor activities. There are numerous running trails, such as the 'Dover Beck Stream – Smooth Tarmac Road loop from Lowdham CP'. For those interested in different cycling disciplines, there are also gravel biking routes and road cycling routes available.
Visitors particularly enjoy the dynamic features of the trails. For instance, the Watchwood Berms MTB Trail is praised for its fun berms and optional jumps, making it ideal for practicing cornering. The descents with berms, drops, and fast corners on trails like Start of Jim Trail are also highly regarded for their excitement.
Yes, for more experienced riders seeking a challenge, Boost Drop-In Singletrack offers a steep chute into the woods and a natural singletrack descent winding through trees, providing a challenging experience.
Cycling around Caythorpe is enjoyable in various seasons. While some trails can get sloppy in mid-winter, many are quick in dry conditions and manageable even in the wet. The diverse landscapes offer pleasant rides throughout spring, summer, and autumn.
While specific facilities directly adjacent to every trail may vary, the planned Wolds Bike Park aims to include an environmentally friendly visitor center and café, a bike shop, and a bike hire station (including e-bikes). For current routes, you may find amenities in nearby villages and towns.
