Better name: North flank of Monte Bar. Unlike Aldo, I rode it as an uptrail. A steadily ascending, long singletrack. More rocks at the bottom, then through pine forests towards the end. Mostly S1. But because it's uphill, the effort required until the end should not be underestimated. Overall, wonderful.

Coming from Mte Lego, a great Vrb trail to the Sentiero Collina Alta or to then whizz down to Brione sM. S3. Short video: https://youtu.be/-ADu8iED7Zs?si=nhF4V5qYcVUinvMS

Very nice trail, initially on a meadow path, further down a more challenging trail with some S2 sections, and at the end an S3 section.

Really a brilliant trail with 2-3 highlights of technical difficulties

@stefano: the traverse you mention is less exposed and much more flow than the Motto della croce-davrosio. Look at the pictures. But pay attention to the period: if you go there when the pastures are full, the matro prevents you from passing

Hi Aldo, what do you mean by average exposure? For example, more or less exposed than the path that starts to the right of the Motto della croce? Thanks for the info. Stephen

Sementina is renowned for its challenging natural mountain bike trails, offering an intense experience for advanced riders. These trails are characterized by their demanding technical nature, transitioning from flowing singletrack sections to increasingly rocky and difficult segments, often leading through dense mountain forests with panoramic views.
For advanced riders seeking a hardcore route, the Sementina MTB Trails are highly recommended. Specifically, the section from Ponte Tibetano to Sementina is extremely demanding (S3/S4 difficulty), featuring challenging rock ramps, narrow passages, and switchbacks. Another challenging option is the Gana Downhill Trail, which is described as a 'step hard trail not for beginners' and 'rough and technically demanding'.
Yes, many of the trails around Sementina offer scenic beauty. The Sementina MTB Trails themselves provide panoramic views over the area. The Epic Trail also offers great views, though riders are advised to concentrate on the trail due to steep downhill sections. The Gana Downhill Trail and Monte Bar North Flank Trail are also noted for their viewpoints.
The best time for mountain biking in Sementina, like much of the Ticino region, is typically from spring through autumn. During these seasons, the weather is generally more favorable, and trails are less likely to be affected by snow or excessive wetness, which can make the already challenging trails even more difficult.
While the Sementina trails themselves lean towards advanced riders, the broader Bellinzona area offers a variety of mountain biking routes suitable for different skill levels. For family-friendly options, it's advisable to look for routes with lower difficulty ratings (S0-S1) in the surrounding valleys or along the Ticino River, which are generally less technical than the mountain trails.
Generally, dogs are allowed on many natural trails in Switzerland, but it's crucial to keep them on a leash, especially in forested areas, near livestock, or where wildlife might be present. Always respect local signage and regulations, as specific trails might have restrictions. Ensure your dog is fit enough for the terrain and carry enough water for both of you.
Starting points for tours on the Sementina MTB Trails can be found in Sementina or Monte Carasso, both close to Bellinzona. Parking is typically available in these villages, but it's recommended to check local parking availability and regulations upon arrival, especially during peak seasons.
In the Ticino region, including around Sementina, mountain biking on designated trails generally does not require a specific permit beyond respecting private property and environmental protection areas. However, always adhere to local regulations and signage. Some private lands or specific events might have different rules.
Beyond mountain biking, the Sementina area offers excellent opportunities for hiking and mountaineering. You can find various hiking routes, including those leading to the Carasc Tibetan Bridge, with options ranging from moderate to difficult. For more details, explore the Hiking around Sementina and Mountain Hikes around Sementina guides. There are also road cycling routes available, such as those found in the Cycling around Sementina guide.
While Sementina is known for its advanced trails, the Epic Trail is described as 'easy to ride' overall, despite technical demands with gravelly and root-filled parts. The Monte Bar North Flank Trail is also categorized as intermediate, offering a nice path with low slopes and excellent terrain.
Visitors particularly appreciate the technical challenge and natural terrain of the Sementina trails. Riders enjoy the raw and authentic mountain biking adventure through dense forests, away from manicured trails. The initial flowing singletrack sections and panoramic views also add to the picturesque and exciting ride.
Sementina and nearby Bellinzona offer various options for cafes, restaurants, and accommodation. As Sementina is close to Bellinzona, a larger town, you'll find a wider selection of services there to refuel and rest after your rides.
