Cellulose Attisholz AG was founded in 1881 and was the only cellulose factory in Switzerland at the time. In a turbulent history, Attisholz also took over the German company Hakle in 1983, known for toilet paper, which has since been sold to the large Kimberly-Clark group together with Tela. For two years in the 2000s it even belonged to Christopher Blocher.
The factory was finally closed in 2008.
Over the next 20 - 30 years it should be gradually developed into a lively and diverse district of the municipality of Riedholz with a variety of housing types, jobs, services, sports and leisure activities, art and culture and gastronomy - at least that's what it says in the 'prospectus'.

A great starting point for the Aare River Trail. The train station is right next to the castle, and there's also free parking. For example, you can take the red train from here to Solothurn and hike back along the Aare River – a beautiful route!
