The footpath seems to follow the riverbed for parts of this section. I was there at end of June & the river (stream really) was low, so that was OK. Be careful because there's a right turn up the right hand side of the valley (to get to the summit), not signposted. There were a few false starts finding this turn.

Road passing through the gorges along the Ouvèze, a few kilometers from the village of Buis-les-Baronnies. The section is short but very pretty.

It's true, it's the national and there is traffic, but this road is really great. Taken from Rémuzat towards Nyons, it is on a downhill false flat, a delight.

It's secluded, rugged and beautiful. However, it was scorching hot and extremely dry. There are hardly any fountains, gas stations, or markets.

While Piégon is known for its gentle hills and agricultural landscapes, the broader Drôme Provençale region features diverse natural formations, including 'gorges sauvages' (wild gorges), riverbed trails, and grottoes within rocky areas. You can explore sites like the Baume des Eyguiers Grotto, a cave and gorge formed by ancient sediment deposits, or the scenic Ubrieux Gorge.
Yes, for those seeking a more challenging experience, the Narrow Chimney Passage of Le Châtelard offers a demanding gorge passage. This narrow fault requires using both hands and feet to navigate, often referred to as a 'secret passage' by locals. It's an adventurous section that is not recommended for small children.
Absolutely. The Riverbed Trail in Parc Naturel Régional des Baronnies Provençales provides a unique hiking experience. This trail follows a riverbed through a gorge, which is particularly enjoyable when the river is low. Be mindful of navigation, as some turns might not be explicitly signposted.

Piégon itself is not primarily known for canyoning. The region's natural formations are more suited for hiking, exploring grottoes, and scenic drives through gorges. For dedicated canyoning experiences, areas like the Grand Canyon du Verdon are more prominent in France, but they are geographically separate from Piégon. The focus here is on picturesque landscapes and historical exploration rather than technical canyoning.
