Historic tri-border point of Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Lower Saxony

Highlight • Monument

Maybe a small contribution to enlightenment 😄: The square is called Dreiländereck, but there is no Dreiländereck here - and there wasn't one here either! Today the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse is located here, clearly marked with a historical boundary stone. The border triangle of North Rhine-Westphalia - Hesse - Lower Saxony is located on the opposite slope of the Weser near the Skywalk. Until a few decades ago (territory exchange between North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony on the right side of the Weser), the border triangle was in the Weser. The error presumably stems from the triangular historical boundary stone. Then as now, however, this simply marks a corner of the border. At that time it was the Bishopric of Paderborn (cross) and the Landgraviate of Hesse (lion) that bordered one another here; today it is their successor states, North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse.

New Pond

Highlight • Lake

The New Pond is a raftsman's pond created in 1737, which complements the 1km distant Lakenteich that was created earlier. The Neue Teich is less idyllic than the Lakenteich, also due to its location directly on the L548 road, but there are still some nice spots and benches, especially on the south bank. The spacious parking lot directly at the pond makes it an ideal starting point for Solling tours, for example to the aforementioned Lakenteich.

October 15, 2025, Fohlenplackener Hütte

The Fohlenplackener Hut is a popular destination for hikers, nature lovers, and cyclists. At an elevation of approximately 440 meters, it offers wonderful views over the vast forests of the Solling region and invites you to take a relaxing break amidst untouched nature. The hut is located on the Fohlenplacken Meadow, a historic clearing that likely got its name from the foals that once grazed there. Today, it is an important point in the Solling-Vogler Nature Park's network of hiking trails. The Hochsolling Circular Trail, which passes directly by the Fohlenplackener Hut, is particularly popular. The refuge itself is quaint and cozy—a classic example of the region's rustic architecture. It serves hikers as shelter from the elements, a rest stop, and a meeting place. There's also a barbecue and picnic area nearby, ideal for groups and families.

The idea for the hut was born in 1984. After a village festival on the grounds of the former Noack sawmill, the surplus was to be used for a worthy purpose. The majority opted for accommodation for communal gatherings in a suitable public space. After negotiations with Neuhausen's mayor, Friedrich Schwerdtfeger, forestry director Dr. Förster, and district manager Langer, the hut was inaugurated in 1986. The front, open but sheltered area is equipped with seating and is open to the public. The approximately 5x5m interior serves as the village community room for the Fohlenplackener community.
